Horley Scout Camp Site

Horley Scout Camp Site is tucked away in a delightful part of North Oxfordshire, three and a half miles from Banbury and exit 11 of the M40 motorway. Access to the site is through a quarter of a mile of tall pine trees. These open out onto eleven and a half acres of well drained grass land surrounded by woods and a disused railway embankment, providing a totally safe environment away from roads, traffic and habitation. In total the site is 35 acres.

The campsite is owned by Banbury District Scout Council and is run by the resident Camp Warden John (Snowy) Hirst.

Horley Scout Camp site is really designed to provide excellent camping in the best Scouting traditions.

Wood fires are encouraged, with altar fires for cooking, a ground fire practice and trial area (from twists to biscuit tin ovens) and a banked fire circle. Pallet wood is in plentiful supply.

Bivouac building is a popular past time in the woods, as is the obstacle course.

The large open central area is ideal for ball games and other activities without interference from other campers.

Both archery and climbing are available at the site with trained instructors available but please arrange this with the warden before your camp.

We also now have a number of mountain bikes available for hire. The can be used for trips into Banbury or for exploring the surrounding countryside.

The woodland and old railway embankments are now part of the Scout run site and have added additional camping areas away from the main field and a number of new features such as the nature trail.
